New president

Three interesting candidates to choose from.

Fernando Lugo:
This former Catholic Bishop who tried to resign from the church - trading in preaching liberation theology in order to run for president; the candidate of the poor.

Blanca Ovelar, the former minister of education, the first woman to run for president in Paraguay, and the candidate for the Colorado party which has been in power longer than any government currently in power in the world - 61 years - a political machine accused of widespread corruption.

Lino Oviedo, the former army general who was jailed for attempting a to overthrow the government in the 90's with a military cue and accused of being involved in the murder of a vice president - but released from jail late last year in an alleged attempt by the governing party to split the opposition vote.

And the winner is . . . Fernando Lugo.
